Christopher Galakoutis is an independent investor and commentator managing his and his family’s money.
In 2002, with the US government and Federal Reserve refusing to accept a recession following the dot-com collapse, and the country in the early stages of what was to become the greatest financial bubble the world has ever known, he re-directed his career to studying the macroeconomic issues he believed would impact the US in the years ahead. Believing runaway debt levels and unlimited credit expansion would lead to inflation, he invested in inflation-oriented ideas from 2003 onwards, and started writing public articles on the subject in 2005. However in an article titled "Debt and Delusion do not equal prosperity" published in a Canadian magazine in early 2006, he predicted that a devastating debt collapse was inevitable. It started in 2007-2008.
Following the stock market crash of 2008-2009, with much of the western world choking on debt and tent cities sprouting up across the US, Mr. Galakoutis revisited the inflation thesis and concluded that it was no longer the primary trend, but that deflation was now the greater threat. In October of 2009 he published a piece titled “Curtain Call for Inflationary Run” reflecting those views. He has been firmly in the deflation camp since that time, writing numerous other articles on the subject including a piece for Minyanville on April 20, 2010 titled “Is Inflation Really Inevitable?” where he warned readers that the next deflationary wave was imminent. US stocks recorded their post-crash rebound highs less than a week later.
Mr. Galakoutis holds a Bachelor degree in Finance from Concordia University in Montreal, with an additional focus in economics, mathematics and accounting. He started his professional career right out of college in the international taxation area with Arthur Andersen, a specialty he continues to be involved in by way of ExpatTaxPros.com, a firm that assists clients with foreign investments ensure their global income tax costs are being minimized. He is regularly published on financial sites such as Safehaven, FinancialSense, Kitco, Gold-Eagle, Goldseek, 321Gold, SeekingAlpha and others. During his "down time," he enjoys watching athletics and mentors young athletes involved in the sport. He resides in Westport, Connecticut.
